Be Ye Lamps
Currently reading a book called “The Sacred Prostitute.” It discusses the original meaning of the word “virgin:” “The virginal attributes of the goddess simply means she belongs to no man; rather she belongs to herself.”
There is much in this life that is incomprehensible. Yet an easy thing to comprehend is why Gautama abandoned his family, why Jesus disappeared for his adolescence.
The virgins, the hermits, the sacred prostitutes, the wanderers—these are the ones whose spirits have fascinated since this spiritual-seeking fire was first ignited. Those who belong to themselves and return to the world hold back none of their love for either. They sought solitude to be grounded in the light of being from within, and then existed for everyone and everything they came in contact with.
Mother Theresa said “let them eat you up.” These are the ones whose identity is digested by life and and distilled into love to feed the masses. They know nothing but life and love at it’s purest, and that includes all manner of pain, sickness, doubt, and death. Life at its fullest, nothing excluded. We have been taught how to give ourselves back to the life that created us, to the One.
We light these candles of the Self, standing vigilant, to be led by others and guide our own way, all lit by one flame. Surrounded by holy darkness, be ye lamps unto yourselves and set the world ablaze.
