“ ★★★★★"
“Olivia creates and holds such a unique, special space of freedom in community where we can witness one another, be brave, while learning how to listen to our bodies…all at the same time! I feel loved and refreshed.”
We could not be more excited for this year’s version of Choir Pa’ Todos—Harmonia! We aim for inclusivity in our community, and so our groups are made up up of folks with a wide range of experience and skill levels when it comes to singing. We’ve been following this model for a few years now, and we’ve all been growing in our capacity to listen to ourselves and each other, to show up authentically in community, as well as feel confident in our skills as singers. Plus, our community has been straight up asking for us to focus more on harmonic skills…so this means we are ready for a round of choir that is more focused on harmony! This will be our most song- and harmony- focused workshop choir yet, so if you are someone who is interested in digging into beautifully satisfying harmonies, this round of choir is for you!
More about Choir Pa’ Todos
Pa’ Todos is focused on creating a satisfying and supportive singing community for wide range of ages and levels of experience; where singers can hone listening skills, vocal technique, and harmonizing skills in a low-stress, not-so-serious, encouraging atmosphere.
Oftentimes, choirs are separated by skill level, gender, or age to better support folks in those demographics (any choir where folks are feeling supported is often AMAZING). With Pa’ Todos, we are interested in creating an inclusive and equitable singing atmosphere, believing that everyone has something unique to bring to the table, and something they can learn from the group. We want this choir to reflect society at large, to see what it’s like when this umbrella demographic comes together to listen to each other and create our own musical culture.
A word for “trained singers”: Being a trained musician, you’ve had a journey that probably included people telling you the “right” and “wrong” ways to make music. I know how much our artistry tends to get “boxed.” I sing this genre, this voice part, this way, forever and ever amen. How about, we sing what we want to sing, when we want to sing it, as we feel drawn? What would it be like to be in a choir where you are considered the authority on what your voice does and how it gets to come to the table? And what if that gets to change (or not, depending on what you need) every time you show up? This space is an opportunity to unwind any training or stories that aren’t serving you around your voice in ensemble, and try on some new ways of showing up to sing. In Pa’ Todos, the atmosphere and music are so special when all backgrounds/levels are present, so we hope greatly that you’ll come sing with us!
A word for “untrained singers”: If you have little to no training in the realm of singing, GOOD. That can often mean your voice is yours and hasn’t been tampered with much by what someone else things you should sound like. We follow our sense of joy, flow, and ease in Pa’ Todos singing space, and we’re all growing together from where we are. That makes this a rich growing environment for everyone, no matter their singing background. So if you love to sing, and you’re drawn to be here, we hope you’ll join!
Finally, we could all use practice existing in space with a variety of people where we are encouraged to listen to both to ourselves, each other, and then act accordingly to create something that serves everyone well. This is our goal with Pa’ Todos—harmonizing in community, whether we’re making music or not, and having a damn good time.
Deets about HARMONIA
Choir Pa’ Todos: Harmonia is a 7 week, performance-optional choir. No experience reading music required. Members will be provided with some audio recordings of harmony parts to support their learning. Youngsters are welcome to join—parent discretion for children’s maturity and capacity to participate is advised. Parents must accompany children under the age of 15.
When: 7 sessions, dates and timing TBA.
Note: While we’d love to see folks at every session, it is assumed that members will need to miss a session or two. And…we are aiming to build community, so if you anticipate needing to miss more than 2 sessions at the time of signing up, you are encouraged to consider joining us another time in the future.
Where: Mercury Project, 538 Roosevelt Ave., in Southtown San Antonio, Texas.
Together in this space, we’ll:
Sing tons! Our focus this round will be on creating harmony, so our warm ups, exercises, and song selections will all focus on supporting the development of this skill
Track our nervous systems so that we are staying in our sweet spot for learning and collaborating with others (when we push ourselves too far or fast outside our comfort zones, we loose partnership with our voices! Finding our edge is key to growth and enjoyment in this space.)
Learn to deeply listen to ourselves and each other (that is the best byproduct of learning harmony—it carries over and teaches us how to harmonize in every aspect of life!)
Be encouraged to take time outside of choir to practice and familiarize ourselves with the music we’re learning
Build community and be held by a group of like-hearted folks. One of our sessions will be a potluck. We will also coordinate optional social events for the group, as well as the option to take our music out in public to share with others!
Sliding Scale Payment for Pa’ Todos
$120-$320 for seven 1.5* hour sessions.
$220 is the price that covers Olivia's time in and out of sessions and expenses for the course.
During the course of choir, there is also the option to add on 45 min 1:1 sessions with Olivia to support personal goals around the voice, like developing singing technique, growth around vocal expression (speaking or singing), or metabolizing stuckness/trauma around the voice or creativity. Sliding scale for 1:1 sessions $60-90 per session.
*(2 hours if we include optional “do nothing” space, 30 minutes at the beginning of each choir session where members are invited to come and wind down, connect with others, and do whatever else feels supportive to help transition from the day into choir time).
If you feel drawn to be here and the posted cost feels prohibitive, please reach out. That draw is important—an invitation to start a conversation and make your needs known. Let’s find a way together to support you and bring you in.💛
There is one space being held as FREE admission for a Black and/or Indigenous community member.
We will be singing indoors and unmasked. As singing without masks indoors is a high risk activity when it comes to the transmission of COVID-19 and other airborne diseases, participants will be asked to keep tabs on their symptoms, test for COVID if they are symptomatic before attending a singing session, and stay home when needed.
We so look forward to singing with you!
